In an impassioned challenge, religious leaders today urged the South African government to start slashing the country's carbon emissions immediately in order to break the international logjam in climate talks and help save life as we know it."The government should do the right thing and set an example," said Bishop Geoff Davies, one of several faith leaders who spoke at the launch of the pan-African campaign called "We Have Faith Act Now for Climate Justice", at St George's Cathedral in Cape Town.
The campaign consists of a petition to world leaders attending the COP17 talks in Durban in December, a youth caravan that will leave Nairobi in early December bringing petitions from many African countries, and a mass rally at the King's Park Stadium on November 27 - the day before the international COP17 climate talks start in Durban.http://www.cop17-cmp7durban.com/
